June 14 was a great day for TSWWF on the Stone Creek Golf Course! Not only was the sun shining, but 132 golfers played in the scramble that kicked off at 8 a.m. This year the tournament fell on Flag Day, which we recognized by inviting Major Doug Thomas and the Oregon City JROTC Honor Guard to post the colors. Presley Zarfas, the talented soloist from OCHS, contributed again with a powerful singing of The National Anthem. It was a great start to a great event!
Grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, cole slaw, packaged cookies, chips, and drinks were on the menu for lunch, served up by Kirk Klebaum from the big grill that was lent to us by VFW Post 1324. We are grateful for the donation of the “picnic” lunch menu courtesy of Dan and Sarah Mills, Grocery Outlet in Oregon City, and Mitche Graf, G-Gourmet Catering in Canby. Erin Patterson and Toni Hart from Pour Choices donated the TyPA ale and Tera and Chris Pilcher from The Growler Run contributed the hard cider that golfers found on Hole #6. Water and snacks were provided on a roving cart to keep our golfers hydrated!
Once again, we were fortunate to have many outstanding sponsors. Our loyal Congressional Gold Level sponsor was local business Benchmade, who again provided the beautifully engraved Trident/Reptilian knives for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place team prizes – always coveted by the golfers. The two $3500 Gold Level sponsors were Pugzee and Gus Farm, Lenox, MA, and the Sampson family, Concord Plastics, Millersburg, PA. Since 2016, these faithful supporters, who have become good friends of TSWWF, have demonstrated their respect and love for Tyrone and his wrestlers with their extremely impressive annual donations. Thank you, Benchmade, and thank you Sampson Family. You are the Best!
Two local businesses were our $1500 Silver Level sponsors this year: returning sponsorship of James Brown, Centerline Concepts Land Surveying in OC and a new sponsor this year, Jim Gates, Three Rivers Custom Decks in Beavercreek, OR. Various contests were sponsored by local businesses Barkdusters, Haskett Orthodontics, Rebound Orthopedics, Russ Loeb/Edward Jones, Lester’s American Made Marine Gear, and a San Diego sponsor OPTIXRD. Patti Serres and Bloomin’ Boutique again sponsored the snack cart. Our gratitude goes out to these devoted sponsors. Please patronize their businesses!

Heartfelt thanks to these great supporters!
No event can be successful without dedicated volunteers who make sure that everything is running smoothly and people are having a good time. Kudos go to our talented photographers Kelsey Stratman and Kerry McQuaid. Various organizational tasks, raffle and mulligan sales, registration, and lunch assembly line duties were handled by Kelli Upkes, Carrie Warmenhoven, Jeremy and Patti Schlaman, Kevin and Cathy Poppen, Justus Mills, Cari Clements, Penny Tracy, Tammi Coelho, Lori Douglas, Tiffany Woods, and our directors Kirk, Debbie, Doug, Chris, Melissa, and Patrick. Thank you, all!
As usual, the outstanding Stone Creek Golf Club staff was on hand to organize and monitor the event. We recognize event coordinator Tony Collopy and his staff -- Marty, Tom, and Rowdy for their hard work and attention to detail before and during the tournament. Thank you!
We are especially grateful to the 33 teams, 132 golfers, who came out to play. Without you, it would be impossible to achieve our goals of providing the needed dollars to help these youth wrestlers pursue their dreams on the mat. As an all-volunteer nonprofit, TSWWF pays no compensation or salaries. Since forming in August, 2015, we have been able to grant $140,000 for expenses such as scholarships, shoes, pay-to-play fees, tournament fees and travel, and team apparel. The success of this year’s tournament was a result of the hard work of our TSWWF team as well as our many good-hearted supporters and volunteers. Thank youI As we look forward to 2026, we are always reminded that Tyrone never gave up in his mission to protect and defend and we won’t either. We hope that both returning, as well as new, supporters will be “on his Team” for next year’s Memorial Golf Classic, as we continue to work hard to provide the resources for Tyrone’s wrestlers to pursue their dreams.
See you in 2026!
What a fantastic tournament! The Parade of Champions with its stirring background music was inspirational and a reminder of how popular high school wrestling is. It was actually one of the best OSAA tournaments I have attended since we first started awarding the trophy in 2016. Congrats go out to Kelly Foster, the tournament director! Well done!
Our 2025 TSW Memorial Trophy girl recipient was Aurianna Van Houten, 120 lb. bracket, from 2A Oakland High School, Oakland, OR. Congratulations, Aurianna! (Unfortunately, we do not have a photo to share of her trophy presentation.)
Our 2025 TSW Memorial Trophy boy recipient was Owen Hull from Grants Pass. It was an exciting night for him as he not only received the trophy but also capped it off by winning his championship match, placing 1st in the 165 lb. 6A bracket!! Congratulations, state champion Owen!
The values he acquired on the mat were an integral part of his Navy SEAL ethos and his 20 year SEAL career and influenced him to become the man he was. He never quit and even though he perished doing what was right, his heroic actions the night of September 11 and morning of September 12 in Benghazi, Libya helped save the lives of 30 other people.
To honor him and his legacy of valor, TSWWF recognizes his "never quit" attitude, determination, inspiration, grit, and loyalty. With the presentation of the annual Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Trophy and scholarship, we encourage and mentor academic excellence, community service, and an exemplary code of ethics for success both on and off the mat.

To be recognized for our charitable efforts to help youth wrestlers by such a prominent and
well-respected business in the Pacific Northwest is truly an honor. Thank you, Les Schwab!
With your donations, TSWWF can help these young athletes and/or wrestling programs in several ways to ensure that the opportunity to participate in the great sport of wrestling is available to them.
For example, through your contributions, TSWWF can purchase new pairs of wrestling shoes, pay-to-play fees, uniforms, or contribute to transportation expenses for out-of-state tournaments. If a wrestling program needs new mats or other equipment, TSWWF can help. Among many needs, these are just a few examples of how your donations will benefit these wrestlers and programs.
You can donate either by check or online.
